Ozu, Yasujiro
The camera is about 90 centimetres from the ground as if it is an observer of what is happening in front of it. It doesn't´t move. It doesn't´t zoom in or out. It doesn't pan. Well not when we´re inside anyway. And we´re inside most of the time. In somebody´s house. In an inn. In a restaurant. We, the spectators who are looking through the lens of the camera, are, like the characters, sitting crosslegged on the tatami talking, eating, drinking or just being silent. And nearly everybody is very civilised. There is hardly any shouting. Everybody behaves in a very restrained, calm manner.
